Dr Robert Barnes, Strategic Advisor
Dr Robert Barnes, Chartered FCSI(Hon), is an exchange expert of 32 years in financial markets, serving as CEO of successful trading venues, Turquoise (2013-2022 – awarded Outstanding Equities Trading Venue 2021) & UBS MTF (2010-2013, while at UBS 1994-2013) and Co-CEO BPX (2023-2025) achieving FCA authorisation in 2025. Chairman (2004-2009) of the Securities Trading Committee of the London Investment Banking Association, he founded Anopolis, advising market structures, in 2013; and served as Co-Chairman of the EMEA Regional Committee of FIX Trading Community 2014-2016. Since 2021, he is a member of the National Timing Centre programme Steering Committee led by the National Physical Laboratory. His peers voted him The TRADE’s first Industry Person of the Year at its Leaders in Trading Awards, and he received the European Markets Choice Award for Individual Market Recognition in 2022. In 2023, the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment awarded him its highest accolade, an Honorary Fellowship. In 2024, he earned the CISI Certificate in Ethical Artificial Intelligence and is a contributor to Global Digital Finance’s Policy & Regulatory Working Groups. Robert holds a PhD from Cambridge and BA from Harvard.
