Michael is Research Principal at Chartis Research, with over 25 years of experience across algorithmic trading, market structure research, and quantitative analytics. Before joining Chartis Research, Michael had research and trading roles at TABB Group, Pavilion Global Markets, Credit Suisse, Daiwa Securities, Credit Agricole, and Development Bank of Singapore (DBS). Michael has a PhD in Econometrics, is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a Chartered Market Technician (CMT), and has been a guest speaker at over 30 trading technology conferences

Tom Whelan is a Managing Director and the Global Head of Instinet Technology Solutions (ITS), and a member of Instinet’s Global Executive Committee. In this role, Tom drives forward the firm’s strategy and delivery of Instinet’s legendary trading technology and software solutions to buy-side and sell-side clients, including the creation of highly customized infrastructures and bespoke hosted, as well as enterprise, platforms that address our clients’ trading lifecycle needs.

Prior to establishing and launching the firm’s ITS business, Tom ran Institutional Sales for Instinet, LLC.  Over the span of more than 25 years with the firm, he has served in a variety of other senior positions across the business, including Major Institutional Sales, Product Sales and Portfolio Trading. Tom attended Michigan State University and graduated with a B.A in Finance.

RJ Weiss is a product specialist on the Workflow Technology team at Virtu Financial.  He joined ITG in 2015 prior to the firm’s acquisition by Virtu in 2019. Previously, he spent several years at Eze Castle Software.  RJ earned his degree in Geography & Geographical Information Systems from Middlebury College.
