Martin Koch, Head: Trading Operations at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange

Martin Koch is currently the Head: Trading Operations at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).  With over 15 years of stock market and financial services experience, Martin Koch has held various senior positions at the JSE.  In his current role, Martin strategically positions the JSE trading landscape and products to ensure operational stability across all JSE markets.

Prior to his current role, Martin was the Delivery Manager for IT and Senior Trading Officer responsible for Trading and Market Services at the JSE. Before this, Martin served as the Trading Services Team Lead in the Equity Market at the JSE.   

Martin was part of the JSE’s graduate program in 2010.  He holds a Finance Honors Bachelor degree from the University of the Witwatersrand.  He has also completed the JSE Registered Trader exam and completed the Management Development Program from Stellenbosch University.

Tebalo Tsoaeli, CIO at Johannesburg Stock Exchange

Tebalo Tsoaeli is an experienced CIO with a demonstrated history of working in the Asset Management, Stockbroking (Institutional and Retail), Capital Markets and financial Market Infrastructure (FMI) industries. He is skilled in Technical Solution Design, Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture, Infrastructure Architecture, Agile Methodologies, Project Management, Cyber Security, Software Development Engineering, Digital transformation, Legacy modernization, Cloud technologies, IT budget management (Capex and Opex), and Business and IT Strategy formulation and execution.

His experience spans across implementation of real-time trading systems and investment management/administration systems (LISP and MANCO), Asset Management, Portfolio Management and Accounting, high frequency algorithmic trading, Quantitative modelling and Digital platforms. He has delivered on a number of key strategic projects for some of the top financial institutions in South Africa and globally. Some of the institutions that he has worked for include JPMorgan Chase, Rand Merchant Bank (RMB), Investec (Wealth and Investment), Standard Bank (Corporate and Investment Banking), Nedbank (Private Wealth), FNB (Wealth and Investments; and Stockbroking and Portfolio Management), Ashburton Investments, Sanlam (Glacier and Sanlam Investments Group), and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).

Mohamed Ismail, Head Electronic Execution, Standard Bank

Mohamed heads up the Equities digital business which includes all electronic execution capabilities for the franchise. Mohamed joined Standard Bank Prime Business in 2018 with the mandate to redesign and future proof the electronic execution capabilities. His expertise spans FPGA, FIX, optimization of electronic execution infrastructure and software. Mohamed’s contribution has helped the business catapult up the JSE equities ranking and making Standard Bank is a major player in the ultra low latency area. Mohamed has a strong technical background and has a Master’s degree in Engineering and Software Development in the financial markets space.

Kevin Brady, co-founder and CEO of A2X Markets

Kevin is a co-founder and the CEO of A2X Markets. A2X is a licenced Stock Exchange regulated by the Financial Services Conduct Authority and Prudential Authority of South Africa.

In 2014, Kevin partnered with Sean Melnick and Ashley Mendelowitz to create a new South African stock exchange. The goal was to bring healthy competition to the South African equity market and break a 130 year-long monopoly. Together they co-founded A2X (Pty) Ltd.

By using the latest exchange technology and efficiencies, Kevin and his team created a low-cost platform for companies to secondary list their shares for trade. A2X started trading in October 2017 and now has 171 instruments listed with a combined market cap of over R11 trillion.

Kevin was raised in South Africa, Australia and the UK and has a business studies honours degree from the London Metropolitan University. He has over 25 years of financial market experience which included 12 years at Investec, nine of which were as head of Investec Institutional Securities and Prime Broking division and eight years at institutional stock broker, Barnard Jacobs Mellet (BJM) where he was a director and head of the equity trading desk.

Tom Minney, CEO African Growth Partners,

Tom is the CEO of African Growth Partners, focused on strategy and organizational development for securities exchanges and capital markets participants. His 30 years’ experience in Africa and worldwide includes as Project Manager for the African Exchanges Linkage Project, General Manager of the Namibian Stock Exchange, investment banking, and many projects including strategy plans, demutualization, boosting listings, training, and collaboration between exchanges. Tom is editor of African Capital Markets News.

Nasheen Sharma, Technical Account Manager │Capital Markets at Johannesburg Stock Exchange

Nasheen Sharma is currently the manager of the Connectivity and Executive Services business at the JSE. Responsible for Business Development of services and new trading clients.

He is currently in this role for 2 years.

He has worked at the JSE for 18 years in a number of different roles across Business, IT and Operations.

Nasheen has a Bachelor’s degree focused in Finance and Management from University of KwaZulu-Natal and an Executive MBA from the University of Cumbria

Mark Randall, Director of Information Services at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

Mark Randall is the Director of Information Services at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, and is responsible for the governance, management and monetisation of the exchange’s data assets. His current focus is on driving the implementation of the JSE’s data cloud strategy, which is modernising the way that the exchange delivers data to information subscribers and provides analytics to clients. Mark is also the Information Officer and responsible for data governance at the JSE.

Mark is a member of the Actuarial Society of South Africa and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, as well as a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary

Stuart Campbell, Head of Commercial at Iress

With nearly three decades of experience in financial markets, Stuart leads the commercial division at Iress. His expertise is extensive, covering key sectors from trading and market data to wealth management, investment products, and financial administration.

Keith Thompson, Head of Market Data (SA) at Iress

Keith Thompson has been involved in financial markets for over 20 years.  His time has been largely split between being an Equity Sales Trader and working on the Fintech side.  Over his career, he has held senior roles at Macquarie Securities, Bloomberg, Absa Capital and Iress.  He is a CFA Charterholder and holds a Masters in Finance from Wits Business School.
