FIX Algorithm Testing & Certification Recommended Practices
In the evolving landscape of financial trading, regulatory requirements play a critical role in ensuring market stability and transparency and in many cases require firms to test and certify algorithm testing before deployment. The absence of standardisation and limited electronic mechanisms hinder effective algorithm certificate communication.
This document models the necessary messaging workflows, ensuring certificates contain meaningful data and can be provided to venues (and other interested parties) in a standardised way both to meet the minimum legal requirements to external parties and to facilitate much fuller information for storage in in-house algorithm inventory systems. This includes precise definitions of algorithms beyond mere identifiers, comprehensive documentation of performed tests, and clear reporting of results with relevant metrics and pass/fail targets.
Alongside the certification, we have also developed flexible standardised messaging to facilitate interoperability between firm’s non-production algorithmic trading systems and testing infrastructure. These facilitate not just the definition of test scenarios but also the instructions to start/stop testing and hence choreograph the activity of all these systems.
